Damn the word

about

Lyrically, “Damn the Word” came out of thinking about a couple of things. First, the way than some words we choose to say, or not to say, lead to miscommunication with far-reaching, unintended consequences, & second, how our motivations & the way we read the motivations of those around us are affected by the feedback loops that happen when we get stuck in our heads.
The musical root of the song is a banjo melody that I’ve been carrying around with me for awhile that is related to a few old-time tunes like “Waterbound” & “Say, Darlin’ Say”. I think Luke had the idea to have the melody eat its’ tail, which really propels the song & came to musically represent that mental feedback loop.
Luke is on baritone & electric guitar, bass, piano & harmonies, Halli is on fiddle & harmonies, Dan Hunt is on drums & percussion, Ian Krist is on vibraphone, & I’m on banjo, baritone guitar & vocals.
